Russia and democracy

It's funny... Putin can carry out whatever kind of authoritarian measures he wants in Russia, attack refugees in Chechnya, etc., etc., and we don't hear that much from the US or other Western countries about how this affects Russian "democracy".

But let him move against big business, and then it's a real attack against "democracy" and the "rule of law".

Never mind the fact that Russians got screwed by the millions by the economic restructuring and the less-than-democratic fire sale deals of the old Soviet-era state industries carried out under the watch of Clinton and Kohl. It's only when the interests of the robber baron capitalists of Russia are under attack that "democracy" is endangered.
