Reports: Israel plans to mobilize reserves

According to both Ha'aretz and the Independent, Israel has cut short leave for some army groups, cancelled the training of others, and is planning to mobilize some reserves. All of this follows the recent attack against Syria, some noise from a Syrian ambassador about military retaliation, and an incident between the Israeli army and Hizbollah on the Lebanese border which left one Israeli soldier dead.

Some people are speculating that a large-scale offensive in Gaza and/or the West Bank is in the cards. Jane's reported last month that Israel was planning a massive invasion in Gaza in October.

When you see large-scale Israeli mobilization and/or deployment in and around the occupied territories, the ethnic cleansing scenario of Israeli military historian Martin van Creveld should come to mind. Also read the Shahak article that Mano Negra links to below.
