More on Pinochet and US connivance in dictatorship
A Guardian article looks at some recently declassified documents indicating Nixon government connivance with the coup that destroyed Chilean democracy in 1973. Nothing ground-breaking, but a little extra reading for September 11.
The article notes that the family of Rene Schneider, a Chilean general who was the last major opponent in the military to the coup and who was murdered in a botched kidnap attempt, is suing the US government and especially Kissinger for playing a role in the murder. Good luck; the sooner Kissinger is put behind bars, the better.
