US to review propaganda aimed at Arabs
One for the "missing-the-point" file:
After the attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, the State Department spent tens of millions of dollars on a campaign to persuade Arabs and Muslims that Muslims in the United States were happy and able to worship freely.
But opinion polls in the Middle East have consistently shown that hostility toward the United States is based on U.S. policies toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Iraq, not on perceptions of the status of American Muslims.
The Bush administration has also undermined its own information campaign through discriminatory measures against immigrants from Arab and Muslim countries, diplomats say.
Unsurprising, and another indication of the inability of most US administrations to actually understand the Middle East.
