US helicopter shot down in Iraq; large operation against guerillas
Reuters reports that a US helicopter has been shot down in western Iraq. It is the first helicopter brought down by hostile fire since Bush's "end of major hostilities" pronouncement on 1 May.

Perhaps there was a problem in the translation of Bush's announcement from English to Arabic. That, or the "foreign-agent-fundamentalist-Islamist-Saddam-loyalist" guerillas carrying out these attacks didn't really care.

US soldiers attacked a guerilla base north of Baghdad. Nearly 400 Iraqis have been arrested since Monday.

UPDATE: The Guardian reports that an F-16 crashed southwest of Baghdad in unknown circumstances.
